Daintree Full Day Tours

Tours to the Daintree Rainforest

A full-day tour to the Daintree Rainforest allows you to see all the highlights while your personal guide drives you everywhere and tells you everything you need to know about the oldest continual living rainforest in the world.

The Daintree highlights that are included in most of the Full day Tours are Mossman Gorge, River Wildlife Cruise, guided rainforest walks, Cape Tribulation, Daintree Ferry Crossing, Tropical Ice Cream, rainforest swim, and lunch in a rainforest setting.

If you have the time, we would highly advice to join a full day tour to see as much as possible while you are here.

We strongly recommend choosing one of our exceptional Port Douglas based tour operators. Not only do they offer pick-up services from your Port Douglas accommodation, but their local guides know exactly where the best spots are.

Please note that due to recent weather events, some tours run an adjusted itinerary. Currently there is no access to Cape Tribulation.

Daintree Half-Day Tours

Tours to the Daintree Rainforest

If you don’t have the time for a full-day Daintree Tour, a half-day will give you a great taste of the Daintree.

Daintree Discovery Tours offers a Morning or Afternoon Tour which includes a pick-up from your Port Douglas accommodation, a Daintree River Wildlife Cruise, followed by a guided rainforest walk and an optional swim at Mossman Gorge.

This is a great tour option for the whole family.

Walkabout Adventure Tours also offers a Half Day Tour option where you explore the Mossman and Cooya Beach area from an indigenous perspective. Learn all about bush food and medicine, and the local indigenous culture from a Kuku Yalanji guide.

A bit less time than a half-day tour, but well worth the mention is River Drift Snorkelling. For a couple of hours, you float down a stunning rainforest creek on a floatie, with a guide to tell you all about the rainforest. A relaxing and refreshing experience for the whole family, which includes a pick-up from your Port Douglas accommodation.

Daintree Rainforest Self Drive Options

Things to do in the Daintree Rainforest

Yes, you can explore the beauty of the Daintree Rainforest by yourself.

The road to Cape Tribulation is smooth and well-maintained, allowing for easy self-driving*. Plan for a full day of exploring from Port Douglas, and pick up a map from our shop before you go.

You’ll have to cross the Daintree River by ferry to enter the Daintree National Park, this ferry runs from 5:00 am-midnight daily. Once you’re across the Daintree River you’ll be right in the middle of the Daintree Rainforest.

The challenge when exploring the Daintree by yourself is to find ways to learn about the rainforest without having a guide with you.

Consider the following options:
Join a wildlife river cruise – While the main objective of these cruises is to spot crocodiles, the guide will also provide interesting information about the Daintree.

Visit the Daintree Discovery Centre: Follow the boardwalk and listen to the audio guide to learn more about the rainforest. You can also climb the tower for an incredible view of the rainforest’s canopy.

Go Ziplining with Treetops Adventures at Cape Tribulation. You will ‘fly’ through the rainforest and the team will explain about the rainforest in between ziplines.

* Please note that due to recent weather events the road between the Daintree Ferry and Cape Tribulation is partially closed. For current updates, please call us on 07 4099 5430.

Daintree Family Friendly Options

Tours to the Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree Rainforest in Australia is a great destination for families with small kids.

Make sure to bring insect repellent, sunscreen, and hats. While there are many walking tracks in the area, be mindful of the heat and choose shorter, shaded paths.

The Daintree Discovery Centre is a great place to start, with interactive exhibits and a canopy tower to climb up and enjoy the views of the Daintree.

Don’t miss a river cruise to spot crocodiles and other wildlife.

Most full days tours don’t allow for small kids, mainly due to the driving time spent with other people. Full Day Tours are long 8 – 10 hour days.

Half Day Tour options are a better option for small kids, or opt for a self-drive where you are flexible in making the day as long or short as you want.
