You’ve arrived in sunny Port Douglas—welcome! Even though we’re just a small beachside town, it’s totally normal to wonder how you’ll be getting around while you’re here. Don’t stress, we’ve got you covered. Whether you’re staying in town or tucked away in one of the lovely resorts just out of the centre, there are plenty of fun and easy ways to get from place to place.

If your accommodation is right in town, good news—your own two feet will get you just about anywhere. Macrossan Street, the heart of Port Douglas, is under a kilometre long and home to most of the town’s shops, cafes, and restaurants.

But if you’re staying a little further out and don’t have a car, you might be wondering what your options are. While we don’t have public transport—no big buses, trams or trains up here in Far North Queensland—we do have some great local transport choices to help you explore with ease.

Hop On a Local Shuttle Bus

Shuttle buses are one of the easiest ways to get around Port Douglas, especially if you’re staying out near the resorts along Port Douglas Road or around Four Mile. These comfy mini-buses run regularly from morning until late and will pick you up right at your accommodation.

Just call ahead or ask your hotel reception to book one for you. They’ll drop you right where you want to go—whether it’s the beach, the Sunday markets, or a dinner booking in town. Some shuttle companies also do Cairns Airport transfers, so they’re handy from start to finish of your trip.

There are a few different companies to choose from, like SR Coaches, Excellence Coaches, and Sizzling Wheels.

Pedal Power: Bike Hire in Port Douglas

One of the best ways to soak up the scenery and take in the relaxed pace of Port Douglas is on two wheels. The town is flat, bike-friendly, and beautiful, with wide paths, shady streets, and easy access to spots like Four Mile Beach, the Marina, and even the lookout if you’re up for a bit of a climb.

Port Douglas Bike Hire is the place to hire bikes, including standard bikes, e-bikes, and family-friendly options like trailers or baby seats. It’s a great option if you want to come and go as you please, and especially good if you’re planning a ride along the beach.

Cruise Around on a Purple Scooter

You’ll see bright purple Beam e-scooters around town—these are a fun and speedy way to explore. You will find them parked at some resorts around town. Just download the app, unlock the scooter, pop on the helmet (they’re usually clipped on), and off you go!

A quick heads up: you’re not allowed to ride scooters along Macrossan Street, which is our main drag. Stick to the approved zones on the app and you’ll be good to go. Only one rider per scooter, and helmets are a must.

No matter which option you choose, getting around Port Douglas is easy and laid-back—just like the town itself.
