Only an hour sailing from Port Douglas, explore the stunning reef around the tropical paradise island of Low Isles. Famous for the large population of Sea Turtles and colourful fish, a Reef Trip to Low Isles makes a perfect day out on the Great Barrier Reef from Port Douglas!
Wavedancer is a very comforatble catamaran sailing vessel, part of the Quicksilver fleet. This Reef Tour departs from the Port Douglas Marina at 10am and you’ll be back around 4pm, leaving more than enough time to explore the stunning reef around Low Isles and the tropical island itself.
With a large indoor air-conditioned area, easy accessibilty and glass bottom boat option, this Great Barrier Reef Cruise from Port Douglas is a great options for families with small kids.
If you are worried about getting seasick when exploring the Great Barrier Reef, travelling on this comfortable catamaran and knowing you’ll spent time on the island of Low Isles, makes this a great option for you! (We always advice to travel on a calm day and ask the pharmacy about tablets to prevent seasickness prior to travelling)
Please note, the reefs at Low Isles were significantly affected by the extreme flooding and associated sediment caused by Cyclone Jasper in December 2023. According to the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM), this was a 1 in 100 year event.
This has resulted in significant damage to a large amount of the coral on the surrounding reef flat at Low Isles. The island itself was unaffected and is still the beautiful coral cay that it has always been, with its extensive bird life and natural habitat. In water there are still living coral colonies, which are slowly recovering from the damage done by the flooding, and you will still see green turtles and an abundance of fish life.
To assist in the recovery of this sensitive ecosystem Wavedancer has limited the numbers travelling to the island to avoid putting additional stress on the environment in which you will be visiting.
What is the itinerary
Time TBC – Optional pick up from Port Douglas or Cairns accommodation at additional fee
9:15am – Check-in at the Quicksilver Office at the Crystalbrook Marina in Port Douglas
9:30am – Boarding of Wavedancer Vessel. Tea and coffee will be available
10:00am – Departure for 1 hour trip to Low Isles
11:15am – Arrival at Low Isles with a glass bottom boat available to bring you to the Island. Free time to snorkel and explore the island
12:00pm – Tropical Buffet Lunch is served
1:30pm – Guided beach walk conducted by a Marine Biologist
2:45pm – Last shuttle back to the boat and depart for the return trip to Port Douglas
4:30pm – Arrival back at the Crystalbrook Marina in Port Douglas
